HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS

Maintaining hair extensions involves way more than just going to the salon every few weeks (or months). That is- of course- if you want to get the most out of your extensions.
Since our extensions are made of 100% Remy Human Hair, most of our extensions can be reused up to one year if cared for correctly.

blowdry techniques

Before any physical activity (pool, beach, gym, biking, etc.), secure hair well in a braid or under a cap. Make sure to wash hair very well soon after to remove any chemicals, sweat or residue. It is best practice to never leave your hair wet after a workout for any long lengths of time. Moisture left in the hair over time will cause slippage to the extensions.

Keeping your hair extensions brushed from the bottom to mid-shaft and untangled twice a day with our Boar Bristle Brush will guarantee the longevity of the hair.

With its’ heat resistance, you can do just about anything with a single brush: detangle, style, blow-dry, you name it!

When brushing, secure your hair with the other hand to prevent tension on the roots. Brush well before wetting your hair (always starting with your ends). Wash your hair using Aqua Hair Extensions Sulfate and Protein-Free Shampoo and Conditioner, at most 3 times a week. Do not shampoo the hair within the first 48 hours of the installation.

After wetting the hair well, gently apply the shampoo to the root area. Using your fingers, lightly massage between the tape/bonds, separating them well to remove any residue and oils. Rinse out. Do not vigorously scrub your hair as tangling may occur. Apply conditioner from mid-length to the ends. Never condition at the root area.

For deeper conditioning, leave the conditioner on for a few extra minutes or use a hydrating treatment, like our Aqua Mask, once a week. Do not go to sleep with wet hair, as this will cause tangling and knotting. Loosely braid your hair before you go to sleep.

After getting out of the shower, let your hair air-dry for about 10 minutes, and apply a heat protecting spray before blow-drying. If possible, just air-dry altogether (the less heat used on your extensions, the better). For smoother results, run some serum throughout your hair avoiding the bonds. Lastly, always put your hair in a ponytail or loose braid before going to sleep to avoid tangles and matting.

WHAT NOT TO DO

  • Never sleep with damp or wet hair moisture will cause slippage over time
  • Avoid applying heat directly to the adhesive or bonds.
  • Only use professional products that are sulfate and sodium-free. Don't overdo it with products.
  • Don’t wash your hair more than 3 times a week.
  • Be careful not to put the product directly on the application area (especially hairspray).
  • Avoid products with alcohol.
  • Do not towel dry.
  • Wait at least 48 hours before washing your hair after first getting the extensions installed.

So, my friend wants to look into hair extensions to add volume and length to her hair, enhancing her overall appearance and boosting her confidence. She believes that hair extensions will allow her to experiment with different hairstyles and achieve the desired look for special occasions and everyday wear. I should tell her that before soaking her hair, brush thoroughly (always starting at the ends) while holding her hair in place with the other hand to prevent pulling at the roots. Thanks for the tip.
